Fado Filmes

Founded in 1997 by director and producer Luís Galvão Teles, Fado Filmes is one of the oldest and most active film production companies in Portugal.

Over the course of 25 years, it has produced more than 40 feature films, including international co-productions with countries such as: France; Spain; Switzerland; Italy; the United Kingdom; Ireland; Belgium; Mexico; Brazil; Mozambique; Guinea-Bissau; and Luxembourg.

With the support of international funds such as Eurimages, Ibermedia and Media, its films have been screened at various national and international film festivals, such as Cannes, San Sebastian, Rotterdam and Venice, with a total of 931 participations and 215 awards.

FADO FILMES has contributed to the internationalization of Portuguese cinema, distributing its films all over the world. One of its biggest successes FADOS (2007) was sold to more than 100 countries and reached 1st place in the top ratings for Portuguese documentaries. In total, FADO FILMES already has more than 11 million viewers worldwide and many of its films can be seen in the catalogs of the Portuguese platform FILMIN, HBO Max and on Portuguese television.

In 2022, FADO FILMES made its television series debut with THE QUEEN AND THE BASTARD, written by Patrícia Müller and directed by Sérgio Graciano.

Born on December 4, 1945, Luís Galvão Teles studied Law in Lisbon (1967) and Cinema in Paris (1968/70).

Throughout his 50-year career in cinema, Luís Galvão Teles has held various positions as director, screenwriter, producer and distributor.

He was an active participant in various film movements in Portugal before and after the revolution of April 25, 1974. That same year, he became one of the founding partners of CINEQUANON, a film cooperative that played a key role during the revolution.

In 1997, he founded FADO FILMES, one of the most important Portuguese film production companies.
