ÂNCORA
Anna and Helena, two mothers, struggle with forced separations. Anna, a Ukrainian refugee, tries to survive in Lisbon with her daughter Kamilla. Helena, Portuguese, grieves the death of her son. The two women become friends the day they meet at the Food Bank.

Helder Faria is a Portuguese filmmaker with a BA and MA in Film from the University of Beira Interior. His early short films, Arpeggio and Ao Redor, were selected for over 50 international festivals. In 2015, he joined Fado Filmes, working as an editor, assistant editor, and script supervisor on projects such as Ermera Roses, Nothing Ever Happened, and the TV series The Queen and the Bastard.
In 2016, he directed the documentary Doutores Palhaços, which had a theatrical release in multiple cities and was nominated for the Sophia Award for Best Documentary. His short doc Woman Like Tree, developed in a workshop with filmmaker Pedro Costa, won the Sophia Award for Best Short Documentary in 2021.
In recent years, he has worked as a script supervisor on feature films like Sombra, Evadidos, and the TV series Vanda. In 2023, he directed the fiction short Âncora, awarded at FEST – New Directors, Caminhos do Cinema Português, and YMOTION. That same year, he premiered his second feature documentary, The Guitar Barrel Project.
