José Luis López-Linares began in the film industry as director of photography for films directed by Víctor Erice, Carlos Saura, Fernando Trueba, Emilio Martínez Lázaro, Jaime Chávarri, Basilio Marín Patiño, and Alain Tanner, among others, winning the 2006 Goya for Best Director of Photography for the film Iberia, as well as having been nominated in four other editions in the same category.
As a director and screenwriter he has stood out in the documentary genre, with titles such as Asaltar los Cielos (Ondas Award, 1997) and Un Instante en La Vida Ajena (Goya Award for Best Documentary in 2004).
