CAST
Marianna Brennand is a Brazilian filmmaker with a degree in Film from the University of California, Santa Barbara. With a strong background in documentary, she directed O Coco, a Roda, o Pneu e o Farol (2007) and Francisco Brennand (2012), the latter awarded at the São Paulo International Film Festival.
Her first fiction feature, Manas (2024), is the result of a ten-year investigation into sexual violence on Marajó Island. The film had its world premiere in the Giornate degli Autori section at the Venice Film Festival, where it received the Director’s Award.
In 2025, she was honoured with the Women In Motion Emerging Talent Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Manas had its theatrical release in Brazil in May and in Portugal in August 2025.
